Sugar MTN

Well here we are at our rental cabin awaiting the XC #2 at Sugar Mtn NC. We were watching Sue's comedy tape and Erin is making us some appatisers. Chris Furrer is doing massage and we are all just lounging like house cats.

The course had endured a pounding from the rain and traffic, in the 2 woods sections it has gotten pretty burly as tire traffic has exposed the slick roots and rocks. Thats good... The climb is huge and it goes on the pavement a bitt. Kinda west coast style a huge climb and big down. I think is will be wise to play patient on this one. 4 times up this mountian will make for about 5200 ft of climbing. The semi pros did 37 min ave laps so I think the winner will be busting 34 min avg laps or so. About a 2:16 or so finishing time. I guess.

Man I did this awesome ride yesterday. I headed out for a jouney up Grandfather Mountain and then headed up the blue ridge parkway. The veiw was awesome. Then I asked a ranger for some direction on how to make a loop back to Banner Elk. I had no map or food but was really into the adventure. So the rager sent me down a wicked dirt road thru alpine meadows into the valley town of Foscoe below. I then took the long way home over 2 really sweet climbs and the downhills were crazy cool.. the most crazy switchbacks since Chris and I raced Transalp in fact! I am definitly coming back to do some serious riding here when I don't have a race to do.

Massenutten Turkey Huntin!

Howdy

Today Erin and I had a great time at the 17th annual Massenutten Hoo-Ha, the weather was perfect and the the course was tight. Fun Fun Fun. Kaylors was stupid rocky and tecki as usuall except a few new lines opened up from the super d.

I almost killed a Turkey today or by the size of the turkey he would have done some damage to me too. In other wildlife related news I had a squirrel incident on a ripping down hill, it seemed like he was off the trail only to come back (go figure) right into my font wheel I braced for impact of my head into the ground from the inevitable endo that takes place when you have a mangled rodent stuck in your fork brace! The little sucker must have just squeezed undet my bouncing front wheel. Good for me, good for him. Needless to say I chilled out on the other downhills. It is not good to push it when you have a health lead eh?

The race was other wise really fun and went well. I got to ride with Todd Helmick for a while, it was cool to ride with a good friend I hadn't seen in 2 months. In the super D yesterday word is that Dillion would have won if not for a flat. Ok I know shoulda coulda woulda's, but he caught the guy who won that started ahead of him before flatting, fixed his flat with a pump and got 6th! Dang. It worked out because the man who was born at this mountain's foot won the Double XC in fine form.

cupcakes rejoice!

the 11 the annually Tour de Burg is coming! see the official release on the www.shenandoahmountainbikeclub.com

Later yall Erin's a calling.
